Solution Overview

Technical Components
The Cook & Phillip Park monitoring station measures six key pollutants: ozone, nitrogen dioxide, visibility, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and airborne particles.[8][4][11] Additional monitoring infrastructure within the City of Sydney includes the Ultimo station, which serves as the third monitoring location in the area and primarily measures pollution from vehicles travelling through Broadway.[3] In 2021, a new long-term station at Alexandria was commissioned and incorporated into NSW DCCEEW's network, expanding the monitoring coverage within the Sydney metropolitan area.[1] The department operates a comprehensive data quality management system that is accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.[6] Near-real-time data from the NSW Air Quality Monitoring Network is made available on the department's website (www.environment.nsw.gov.au/aqms) and mobile apps (search for 'NSW Air Quality'), providing hourly updated air quality category ratings for each monitoring station.[6][4] The pollution data is processed to produce an overall air quality rating, ranging from 'Extremely Poor' to 'Good', and when air quality is 'Poor', an alert and health advice is issued to all those who have subscribed to the NSW Government's free air quality update service.[3]
Implementation Details
