Technical Components

The platform is owned and operated by Wellington City Council using software licensed from Social Pinpoint.[2] The technical infrastructure includes an interactive Community Climate Action Map that allows users to find local climate action groups in Pōneke, connect with initiatives, or add markers to showcase projects.[2] The system incorporates climate science tools that enable residents to explore potential hazards affecting their homes and communities.[2] The implementation integrates with Wellington's Digital Twin tool, developed as part of the Our Changing City project, which visualizes the past, present, and future of Pōneke to raise awareness of climate change impacts.[3]

Implementation Details

The Council won an award for innovation from the prestigious Bloomberg Global Mayors Challenge in 2022 and received US$1 million, which was used to deliver Wellington's digital city model tool.[1] Kelly Henderson, Innovation Lead at Wellington City Council, shared a showcase video about the Digital Twin the team developed, outlining how the Our Changing City project utilized the model to show temporal changes in Pōneke.[3] The digital city model tool was designed to create accessible and engaging experiences for the public to explore the changing shape of Wellington.[1]
